Anthrax is an iconic American heavy metal band that emerged from the thriving New York City music scene in the early 1980s. Formed in 1981 by guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Dan Lilker, Anthrax quickly gained recognition for their aggressive and energetic style. The band's lineup solidified with vocalist Joey Belladonna, drummer Charlie Benante, and guitarist Dan Spitz. Anthrax played a pivotal role in the development of thrash metal alongside bands like Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth.
